| This album is absolutely brilliant. 2 or 3 love songs with only piano aside, the rest is heavy guitar, intermingled with that voice of hers, and a bit of piano of course. | To Shorty - Lithium is not just an element, it's actually used in pharmacology in a different form as treatment for both bipolar and manic disorders. I don't know that this is what Amy is referring to; it's just informative information on what she may have had in mind.
Anyhow, ABOUT THE ALBUM. I really wish it was a bit easier to understand her. I've had to look up quite a few lyrics to the new songs. I do, however, enjoy this. I wouldn't try and choose between 'Fallen' and 'The Open Door,' as I think they're both good. Amy Lee pulls off songs that many artists could not. |

| I remembered when I first ran across one her songs before she became a well-known artist. I was entranced with her beautiful voice and the emotion she imbues the lyrics with. I was really glad when 'Bring Me Back To Life' was a smash hit with Fallen. I love her lyrics, I've had some hard times in my life and I could relate to some of her songs. And the music, the entire band does a really fantastic job. Shame that Ben Moody left. Yet that does not detract that Evanescence is truly an amazing band. |

If you can hear the lyrics and see them, then you can almost get the impression that she wishes to rid herself of those feelings of loneliness and sadness. While it being in some treatments for manic disorders is correct, I have an easier time believing my theory... Of course I could be wrong... it's a matter of opinion. Only the lovely Amy Lee knows the answer to that one. |

| This album is amazing and shouldn't be compared to Fallen, seeing as though they sound totally different but are both brilliant in their own ways. This album is more epic, and, even if it isn't as hardcore as Fallen, it has the most beautiful composition I have heard from them. And they sound nothing like Nightiwsh or Within Temptation. I am a great fan of all 3 bands, Nightwish are more fantasy lyrics with an OPERA singer and Within Temptation are flawless but again, sound nothing like Ev! | To tell the truth, I don't like this band too much. The Open Door still sound like a pop album to me with some rock/goth elements (real alternative/rock/goth music starts a bit elsewhere for me). And about the meanings behind lyrics/pop-appeal stuff: this is entertainment biz! Even if a song's lyrics could change the world, it has no power without the right melody, instruments etc. And pointless words could make a song perfect if it's musically on the spot.
Anyway imho the album is nice, but that's all. But Amy's voice really-really rox. Maybe there's some truth about that it has a hoarse character on some notes (although definitely not screechy at all) but that's what makes her voice so sensual and sooo sexy. Even if Evanescence is not my favourite, nowdays Lithium became one of my favourite songs. |

| Last time I didn't wrote anything about this song (just that it's my favourite from my album).
I think what Pagan wrote is correct. And someone mentioned that lithium is not just a chemical element but also a treatment for manic disorders. I think in this song lithium refers to someone rather than to some drugs although the effect would be the same. I really like this song because musically it's great. On the other hand, I hate to listen to it because it's just amplifying the feelings I already have. The feeling that "I want to let it go" but the one "I want to stay in love with". And the only reason it is sorrow and not joy is that I don't want her to "make me sleep alone". So I listen to it again and again but nothing's gonna ever change, I "can't break free until I let it go". In this case the sacrafice of freedom would be okay because having her and the fact that she has me again could change the world. I think in Amy's mind Lithium is some guy, in my mind it's some girl...Well, not "some" but the "one". And if it' ture, how could I "let it go"? How could I accept that "in the end ... I had to fall"? And I "wonder what's wrong with me" but I already know: "I'm still in love" and only hope left to me and if it dies then "God, I want to let it go"... |

| Im love this song. I love Evanescence, I actually saw them in concert on October 17th of lat year...it was amazing because everyone got to meet them after the concert too. I dont see how anyone could not like them. They are totally amazing, and sing ab out real things. Not being in love with strippers or getting high. I mean, both of those thingsd are real, and could happen, but they really dont mean anything...so yeah...as for the album...i definately like this one better than Fallen. I mean, Fallen was great, but there's just something about The Open Door that makes me just like it more...The lyrics maybe..they did make the lyrics a little harder to understand, but after you listen to the whole album until you know all the words by heart, you start to understand it. This entire album was based on real things that happened in the band members' lives. I highly respect Amy and the band for not being like every other band, group or singer out there. They are so unique and different, and that is why i love them. They base their music on real life things, and I can relate to a lot of the songs. and for anyone who wants to call this band emo or goth, you can go hide in some little corner and cut yourself because they're not. I am sorry if that offends anybody. Their songs mean something to them, and they expect them to mean sometihng to other people. But you know what, everyone is so caught up in all of the other music in the world, and reject a song that doesnt sound like you should be taking your top off to. Why do you think "Everybody's Fool" didnt make it? and "Going Under" didnt make it? because it didnt sound like other music. and "Lithium" didnt go very far either, even though it is a great song. "Call Me When You're Sober" made it up on the charts because it was a song that women tried to understand, and sure enough, some of them did. Because most guys drink all the time, and dont know what kind of fools that it makes them look like. I am just Hoping and praying to God that "Sweet Sacrifice" makes it because it just means a lot to me. before i write a novel, i'm gonna stop now...thank you for taking time out to read this.

| Okay, to all you saying this album is so different from the first one...of course it is. It's called growing and maturing in their musical abilities and creativity. If every album sounded the same, then you would get bored of it SO fast. If an artist doesn't change at all in terms of personal style and sound, that's cause for criticism. People change, and musicians are people, therefore they change. Anyways, I personally love Evanescence and although I was a bit leery of The Open door, I love it and can't stop commending Amy Lee on another excellent album. |
