| My comments are directed at the Bush supporters: Pinks's "job" as a singer/songwriter/entertainer. is to move people, make them think and bring some joy into their lives. This she is doing and doing well. The job of the President is to lead the nation not to "rule" it like some despotic king. Since this reality of our form of government (executive branch, congressional, judicial; you know- checks and balances) seems to constantly frustrate Bush he uses lies, fraud and evation to get what he wants here and in the international arena His job is to unite the citizens to the common cause of freedom, equality, justice and properity for all its citizens and to represent our nation to the rest of the world with intelligence, wisdom, and grace. To be an example of the values that unite us as a nation. Bush may have been the most divisive president in U.S. history. Europe who used to see us as a friend and ally now sees us as a big bully who grabs and takes what ever it wants and doesn't give a damn about asking what anyone else thinks about it. Good leaders surround themselves with talented experts of varying opinion; no man can know it all or see it all and no one expect this of any leader. Surrounding oneself with only those who agree with one's ideas has been the pattern of all dictatorial types, Bush surrounds himself with only like minded individuals so there is no possibility of him being exposed to a contrary point of view. This very tactic has lead to the eventual downfall of all the great and horrible dictators of the past including Saddam Hussein. (So, at least there is some hope in that!) Brush is proud of the fact that he doesn't read. "Three cheers! and down with books!" This statement is comming from a graduate of an ivy league university. His only qualification of admittace was the fact that he was the spoiled punk brat of a wealthy, priviliaged, eleteist clan from the east (Get this straight people; the Bush's are not good-ol-boy people-of-the-earth sod-busting rancher/farmer/christian cowboys. They are a filthy rich, eastern aristocracy who happened to (unfortunately for them and the rest of us) give birth to a nincompoop. He is a anti-intellectual, illiterate, he is almost inarticulate, and has shown himself to be if not evil at least crimanally incompetent. (Shame on Yale) Make one proud every time he opens his mouth. Now some facts: There is no evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 and had any viable "weapons of mass destruction program" and yet Bush launched a war against this nation, a war which has killed and maimed over 100 thousand of its citizens and collapsed their society into a nightmare of chaos and brutality. Not to mension the incaluable suffering and death this debachle has brought upon thousands of U.S. citizens and the citizens of the other nations that were tricked into joining us. Good job Georgie! No, the president is not responsible completely for the poverty in the U.S. but his policies have widened the gulf between the rich and the poor and may be destroying the middleclass. His cronies have become obscenely wealthy while bankrupting the nation. Good job Georgie. And No, no one can know if Bush would hate his daughter if she were gay but his hatred of the millions of gay sons and daughter of the rest of America has been made abundantly clear. To those of you who imagine that ruling a nation based upon religious beliefs is a "good idea" you may want to pick up a history book and read about the long, torturous, brutal, bloody nightmare that religious zeal joined with the force of government has inflicted upon mankind for thousands of years. Ironically we are currently fighting a war against people with this mindset. I fail to see anything of "Jesus" or his teachings in the actions of the divisive, clannish ignorant, hate-mongering, anti-intellectual, anti-reason, anti-peace, anti-environmental, anti-earth, anti-life, anti-justice, deceptive, greedy, violent political philosophy currently leading our faultering nation. |

When you live in a family/neighborhood ravaged by poverty, and your high school is filled with army recruiters who tell you all the benefits you can get with enlistment (money for college, training, money on the side, a structure in life to counteract the chaos you experience daily), why wouldn't you join? It's the same reason that there are so many kids in the drug trafficking industry here in Brazil - you can make 10 times the money being a "little fish" than having a legitimate entry-level job. In terms of issues of national/domestic security, what needs to be developed are more opportunities for young people so that they really do have a choice. |

To those of you who are Bashing the song. How many of you have had siblings in Iraq. Do you not see what this war is doing to our nation to the world? Famous Musician or not she is allowed her freedom of speech. Just as each of you are entitled to your own opinion and have a right to express it.
I personally do hate the fact that our brothers, sisters, parents and children are still risking their lives in Iraq. I don't think we belong there. The Middle East has a major part in the oil industries, and bush has interest in the oil companies, This last couple of years there has been record profit for the oil companies in the US. I understand that politically the war started to strike back. To say you can't push us around like that. But The United States of America has had the reputation of being "A leading World power" we aren’t that great. (Sorry to the hardcore patriots I am offending by this… but we’re not.) When you climb on top of a snow bank and say "I’m the King of the Hill" some one is going to try to push you down and take your spot. That is the way that it was when we were kids… it’s still the way things tend to go.
I think some of you are looking to deep and others not deep enough. First its a song and if that is how she feels, who cares if she worked 80 hours a week in a coal mine or 100+ hours a week entertaining her fans from the writing process to recording to the stage.
