"My Sun-Eyed Girl" makes the most sense. The sun glasses she's wearing(Black) would make it look like she had the sun in her eyes.

It's definitely not "summer." If you watch the music video, you can read his lips and totally see that there's no "M." in the word. I'm 98% sure it's "sun-eyed girl."

I was wondering if the lyric between my...girl is something in Spanish. Beck has a tendency to throw Spanish words and phrases in his songs. Any ideas? It's been a long time since I've taken a Spanish class.

Beck is saying "My Cyanide Girl" or "My CyanEyed" Girl. It is probably Cyanide because it fits in with the subject matter, which is a serial killer. This may be hard to accept in a pop song, but the lyrical imagery are those of a serial killer eyeing a target.

What Beck is doing is trying to make it sound as close to both cyanide and sun eyed as he can. The song is all about double meaning and optimism vs pessimism. A happy person will hear sun eyed while a sad person will hear cyanide, just as a happy person would hear diamond ring and a sad person would hear toy diamond ring. It can be which ever you choose it to be, but I like to think cyanide because of the other lyrics of the song, which are basicaly all about killing a girl. Also watch the video, it shows a very happy thing, such as a girl drawing on the side walk, but it quickly changes to a chalking of a crime scene. It all supposed to be double meaning.

For what it's worth – and I reckon he's making it as hard as possible to hear what he's saying – I *think* he's saying 'My sort of girl'. But it's definitely up for debate.

BECK - GIRL
| Okay, lets break this down. I think I got this J
Taking a walk amoungst the roses, he has come upon a young girl, pounding her fist on a vending machine in frustration. Childish, and pure—with a toy diamond ring on her finger… symbolizing her innocence, and her inability to control her emotions. Everything to this girl is just life, and just a game… hence: “with a noose she can hang from the sun.” there is an air of optimism about her, though when she views the world from tinted lenses, it becomes obvious to the onlookers that she exist in a sheltered life, and she was trouble perceiving what is right. Another indication of this is the fact the girl spits on the people lying on the beach.
Beck describes that he has all she’s been looking for, and much more. He is her opposite, and he would do anything to prove that to her.
In the latter part of the song, it seems like the girl has had a hard-knock life. She has risen up from a ‘land filled life,’ but is aware that her ceiling is the limit, not the sky. When wishing for something better, her pleas are met with ‘white noise’ and nothing else.
I think the goal behind it all is to make this girl happy, putting the past behind them; He want to save her. |

In the jacket of the CD, he purposely leaves the ellipses between "My...girl". I personally believe it's "cyanide", mostly because that's the type of thing Beck would do. I've seen it posted both ways all over, but I think he's just trying to make it that confusing and complicated.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that he is saying 'sun-eyed'...metaphoric and literal. She is wearin her dark sunglasses but she still has the sun in her eyes, she is blind and doesn't see what is front of her. I also don't know if i agree with the serial killer comment. I think he means it symbolically. Like she is his target for summer love and he is going to break her heart. She is obviously melancholy and confused and he's going to draw her in. I really don't know though. Love it!

I was actually listening to the radio when this song came out and the DJ said that Beck said that the "My ____ girl" is no word at all. It's jibberish. IT's whatever you want it to be.

its either "sun eyed girl" or "cyanide girl"... If you look at the lyric book of the album is says neither (its blank). The song is kind of like a glass half full or half empty kind of thing... figure it out for yourself...

Its "Masonna Go" or "Masonna Girl" as a tribute for the noise artist who once opend a show for him. thats why he also mentions white noise in the lyrics, a frequency or somehting equal like that, he often uses. Masonna also often wears black sun glasses. the rest of the lyrics might be about a real girl and not the Masonna-artist or the Masonna-Girl image (Masonna = Masochist girl).
